The queue
1,655 gigawatts of projects have asked to connect to the grid
Solar parks, wind farms, batteries, data centres and factories in ten European countries have applied for a connection and are still waiting. Their combined size is set against each country's highest demand on record.

Renewable power the grid turned away
Source: Red Eléctrica, ESIOS, “Energía Renovable No Integrable” per 220/400 kV node: renewable energy cut in the day-ahead technical constraints process. Nodes under about 5 GWh are not itemised by REE.

Fifty hertz, give or take
Every generator from Portugal to Poland turns in step with every other. When a power station trips, the frequency dips everywhere at once, and reserves push it back. This trace is measured in Freiburg and updated every few minutes.
